| Welcome to my "MUMMY PAGE" In 2004 I temporarily detoured from my painting, and got involved in the creation of several mummies, which followed a project initiated the year before utilizing bicycle inner tubes. These inner tubes were wrapped around and woven over three dimensional ojbects, including one doll. (These inner tube art pieces can be viewed on my pages titled "3 Dimensional Art") I found this first mummy project quite challenging, but rewarding, and decided to continue on but utilized more traditional wrappings, cotton muslin. This was torn into strips, which I then proceeded to wrap and weave! The core of each mummy is actually a doll, measuring abut 30" in length. After completion it is painted, and in a few of the cases, treated with an epoxy resin to make an almost porcelain finish. The others I left au natural. The finished piece can be either hung or placed on any horizontal surface. My first recollection of mummies was from the horror films of my youth, but my fear was turned into fascination when I first became acquainted with the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Although I have never had the opportunity to visit Egypt, the art and architecture of these monuments, and their entombed royalty has always held my attention. The reverence paid them in museums throughout the world remain to me very intriguiing and significant. So, these mummies of mine pay homage to ancient Egypt. They are not meant to frighten, but to remind the viewer of a culture and a time that will never be forgotten. PLEASE CLICK ON THE IMAGE BELOW WHICH WILL TAKE YOU TO MY MUMMY IMAGES |
