| Born 1932, Omaha Nebraska Education Two years Jr College - Red Oak, Iowa (50/51) Gen Ed One year SF State College, San Francisco, Ca (56) Gen Ed Art Training Self Taught Background Raised in a small Iowa town (Red Oak) I left in 1951 to spend 4 years in the US Navy. After my discharge from the Navy, I settled in SF, and except for two years in Chicago (58/59) considered this my home. I lived in the Haight-Ashbury district, during this later period - 1960 to 1966 - and was involved with a group of artists calling ourselves the Artists' Consortium. I also met my wife Mercedes, and was married in 1960 and began raising a family. Exhibiting in neighborhood store fronts, and incidental venues, my first one person show in a private gallery was in January 1966, with the Lebault Gallery, San Francisco. Later that same year, after moving to Fresno, I became active in the Fresno art community. I had a solo exhbit at the Coffees' Art Galley, and showing with other Fresno artists I had work in the first San Joaquin Valley Art Annual in 1966. Incidental cultural endeavors during the late 70's and thru the 80's were channeled towards the jazz community. I was a weekend volunteer jazz DJ for almost ten years at a local public radio station, and through this involvement, I was Master of Ceremonies for four major jazz fesitvals (Jazz Valley) held in Fresno in the mid/late 80's. I was nominated by KVPR radio station for Fresno Volunteer of the Year in 1985. Upon my job retirement in 1988 I was invited to join Fig Tree Gallery and rededicated myself to my painting and photograhy. In the fall of 2002 I returned to the jazz community by taking an early morning DJ spot for our local university radio station, KFSR. I am currently an officer and on the Board of Directors of the "Cultural Arts District" - a non profit organization dealing with a specific area of downtown Fresno which houses many galleries, and 3 major museums. I have maintained a studio in downtown Fresno for many years, and continue to seek new venues to exhibit my work.. Contrary to my gray hair, I still maintain a youthful outlook and committment to my art, and continue to pursue new directions in my painting and photography. EXHIBITION HISTORY HOME PAGE |
